It's no secret that Austin is a destination city. And now we can put another feather in our cap of greatness. A new list from WalletHub names Austin the sixth best (and most budget-friendly) city for summer travel, beating out all other Texas spots.
WalletHub analyzed the country’s 80 largest metro areas across 13 key metrics, including airfare costs, flight times and the number of attractions in the city. Texas, Florida and Oklahoma lead the list of economical summer destinations, each with at least two cities in the top 15.
The Lone Star State snags two spots in the top 10, with Austin at No. 6 and Dallas close behind at No. 8.
Needless to say, Texas earns some bragging rights from the list (as if we need any help in that area). In addition to Austin and Dallas, Houston, McAllen and San Antonio rank in the top 50. Austin and Dallas shine as two of the cities with the least complicated travel experiences. McAllen is among the five cities with the lowest local costs.
These new stats may cause even more of a travel influx to the Lone Star State, but we’ll be ready with cheap airfare, fun things to do and plenty of overzealous bumper stickers. Because, this is Texas, y’all.
